Our postgraduate Counselling trainees at Caladenia are committed to providing you with a caring and supportive environment in which you can consider the life circumstances that are causing you distress.

Our trainees are a diverse group of men and women from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. At Murdoch, we encourage mature students to study Counselling so that we can build upon their previous work and life experience – our students range in age from 22 years of age to over 50 years of age.

Our students have completed previous degrees in a range of human service areas such as psychology, social work, teaching, nursing, theology and business amongst others. They have returned to University to study Counselling as they feel drawn toward a profession that fosters personal wellbeing in others.

Our students undergo rigorous training before undertaking their work at Caladenia House and work closely with their Counsellor themselves as an integral part of their personal and professional development. We feel that this helps them prepare for the role of Counsellor and to understand what it is like to be a client.

We encourage our trainees to undertake their own therapy so that they come to better know their own strengths and the areas in life that challenge them. As staff we are also committed to our own personal and professional development and both staff and students undertake regular supervision to support our work with clients.

When our trainees work with you they will videotape their sessions so that they can review their work each week with their supervisor. Supervisors are also able to monitor each session live through this video link to support trainees in their work with you.
